He took over after a short Fatimid overlordship by Ubayd Allah al-Mahdi Billah in 925 and was overthrown in 927. He died in 944. Al-Hajjam (meaning ''the barber'' in Arabic) was the last Idrisid ruler to stay in the capital Fes.〔African states and rulers. Stewart, John.
